FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you offer direct billing?

Yes, we offer direct billing for many insurance providers. This allows us to bill your insurance company directly, simplifying the payment process for you. Please reach out to confirm if your provider is included.

Do you accept publicly funded healthcare programs (ie OHIP, ODSP, etc)?

No, we do not accept publicly funded healthcare programs. All our services are offered through private pay or extended health insurance coverage. Feel free to contact us for more details on how you can use your insurance benefits for our services.

Is treatment included in the initial assessment?

Yes, treatment is included in your initial assessment. Along with a thorough evaluation and discussion of your treatment plan, you’ll receive some form of therapy during your first visit. If your health history is complex, additional time may be needed for a comprehensive assessment, but we try our best to ensure some hands-on therapy is part of your initial session.

What does my personal insurance coverage look like? Can you check it for me?

Insurance coverage can vary depending on your provider and plan. Most extended health plans cover services like physiotherapy, massage therapy, and chiropractic care. While we cannot check your insurance coverage directly, we’re happy to guide you through the process and provide any necessary documentation for claims. We recommend contacting your provider to get details about your coverage, including any limits or claim submission requirements.

What’s the difference between a physiotherapist and a chiropractor?

A new wave of treatment approaches is emerging in the industry, where physiotherapists no longer rely on just leaving you with TENS machines or heat pads, and chiropractors don't simply spend five minutes adjusting you and then sending you on your way. At Axis, both physiotherapists and chiropractors are hands-on and focus on comprehensive care. While their historical approaches may differ, the gap between them is closing. Both can treat similar conditions, including musculoskeletal pain, injuries, post-surgical care and mobility issues, and the treatment approach is often quite similar.

Our physiotherapists and chiropractors use a combination of manual therapy, acupuncture, exercise prescription, and other hands-on techniques. The key difference is that all chiropractors have the ability to perform spinal manipulations or adjustments, offering an added layer to treatment when needed.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to come to the clinic?

No, a doctor's note or referral is not required to visit our clinic. However, some insurance companies may need one for reimbursement of the services provided. We recommend checking with your provider to confirm their requirements.

How many sessions does it take to see results?

We aim to see changes or improvements within the first few weeks of your initial treatment plan. Progress can vary depending on your condition and goals, but we constantly reassess your progress throughout your care. If the expected results aren’t achieved, we’ll pivot and adjust your treatment plan to ensure you’re on the best path to recovery. Our focus is on creating a personalized plan that works for you.

Can I combine physiotherapy, chiropractic, and massage treatments?

Absolutely! We often see that combining multiple therapies often leads to better results. We take a team-based healthcare approach, where our practitioners collaborate to provide comprehensive care that targets all areas of your recovery. Whether it's combining physiotherapy for movement rehab, chiropractic care for joint health and mobility, or massage therapy to relieve muscle tension, this integrated approach helps optimize your outcomes and accelerates the healing process.

Do treatments hurt?

Some treatments, such as deep tissue massage, manual therapy or acupuncture, may cause temporary discomfort, especially if you’re dealing with an injury or tight muscles. However, our goal is to work within your comfort level and make the experience as pain-free as possible. Any discomfort should be temporary and discussed with your practitioner.

What should I wear to my appointment?

We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting/athletic clothing that allows for easy movement. For conditions of specific areas like the lower body or shoulders, it’s helpful to wear or bring appropriate clothing such as shorts or a tank top/sports bra.
